This blog has recently been hit by a barrage of spam comments linking to “adult videos” pages on Google Notebook. If you click through onto the site, you’ll get to a page that appears to be an adult video site, but clicking on anything drops you into an install process for an “ActiveX control” which in fact is a virus or trojan.
This must be a new wave because Akismet hasn’t been catching most of them. I finally put in an additional spam filter that junks any comment with “google.com/notebook” in it.
What additional plugin do you use for filtering?
@rrd, I'm relying primarily on the Movable Type Akismet plugin (MT-Akismet). When I find something that Akismet doesn't catch (like these Google Notebook spams), I add additional specific filters in the built-in SpamLookup MT plugins.
I have received 3-5 e mails from google notebook for the last year. I have tried everything i can to remove them. i dont remember signing up for google notebook and they dont make it easy to cancel. How do i report this ????
Rolando, it isn't Google Notebook itself that is spamming you, or causing email to be sent to you. Instead, spammers are creating pages on Google Notebook, then spamming the page link around. I tried finding a way to report spam/abuse pages to Google, but couldn't find a way. In any case, you can just treat it like any other spam and deal with it accordingly.
